I strongly disagree that these ads are elitist, or even snobbery. The point of the ads is that mac is different. HP can use demonstrations to show how, in a perfect world, their computers can do good stuff with windows. Apple has a different need. Apple does not build commodity computers. Apple is an ALTERNATIVE SYSTEM must differentiate itself compared to everything else out there. The need is to show that there IS a difference, and that Apple represents a very different way of working with computers.
As a recent switcher I can tell you the ads were very effective at delineating my concerns with Windows, and showing me that Mac might be the answer. ( Which, by the way, it was!)
EDIT: Nuts, I got censored
EDIT 2: Check that, they removed the post I responded too. It's a shame, I cleaned his clock! LOL

One thing that is important to investors is the ranking of units shipped (in comparison to other companies.) Apple is currently 4th behind Gateway -- but VERY close!! Q4 2006 should bring Apple to the 3rd place for US shipments in America, behind Dell and HP. That will turn a lot of heads. Q3 Shipments (http://www.macdailynews.com/index.php/weblog/comments/gartner_apple_mac_grabbed_61_of_us_market_share_in_q3_06/)

HEHE, I giggled cause I thought u were being sarcastic about The Weather Channel letting you down... I forgot Time Warner's 11% marketshare is still a big chunk, I just didn't make the connection cause to me TWC is The Weather Channel... which would be cool if they streamed live, hehe.
Understandable, but we are in a Time Warner Cable related thread.
Where I live it's either Time Warner Cable or DirecTV.. and DirecTV is satellite. I obviously went with the former, like anyone should if they can.
I would like to see The Weather Channel stream also, that would be great. You're right.

Macworld (http://www.macworld.com/article/159010/2011/04/wozniak.html) reports on Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak's keynote session at Storage Networking World in California. Wozniak was questioned about how tablets would change the computer industry.The tablet is not necessarily for the people in this room, Wozniak told the audience of enterprise storage engineers. Its for the normal people in the world, Wozniak said.
I think Steve Jobs had that intention from the day we started Apple, but it was just hard to get there, because we had to go through a lot of steps where you connected to things, and (eventually) computers grew up to where they could do ... normal consumer appliance things, Wozniak said.

Well, this is confusing.
Last year Macrumors posters told me in no uncertain terms that CR is always wrong.
So how am I supposed to take this news?
To mean that CR has some degree of sanity?
Same thought. Why cant people just (I know this sounds crazy) listen to CR when they make factually based reviews (i.e., iPhone 4 antenna design CAN lead to dropped calls). I hate this blind bias some folks have on here.
I think some folks here have a legitimate gripe with CR. Of course there are plenty who don't even bother to think it through, hating them simply because they attacked an Apple product, but on that note they gave heavy weight to the antenna issue, did not do similar testing on other similar products (including those which clearly had similar issues), and continued to highlight the issue. It looks very much like a publicity grab.
I'm not losing a moment of sleep over it, and I actually do use CR from time to time (though sometimes they've recommended trash to me), but it isn't right to give them a night of sweet loving just because they highlighted the iPad when it doesn't yet have real competition.

I'm running Panther on a G5 with multiple user accounts. When my wife opens a PDF document from the web it automatically gets saved to her desktop. Her desktop is getting just a tad crowded. I've tried searching "help" in acrobat reader (latest version) but for the life of me can't find anything that would automatically save to her desktop. BTW, when she does click on a PDF doc the screen that comes up defaults to "open" with and not "save". We are using Mozilla as our browser if that makes any difference. Any help would be appreciated. Cheers

When has Apple ever made anything more than "just a small improvement"?
iOS evolution from 1 to 4 is somewhat disappointing. It has become somewhat stale, especially for the iPad. Hopefully iOS 5 is a big leap forward.

I'm just wondering *why* Apple is choosing this time to introduce built in SD card readers.
"This time" being last summer, when they started including them in MacBooks?
They don't really need a reason besides pretty much every consumer camera using SD media these days.

The update, which weighs?
Weight is other thing. The update has a size of...
Let's use the English language correctly.
It's a perfectly acceptable colloquialism.

More from me.
Believing that there is an actual difference in output between low cost class 4 SD cards and super fast class 6 or 10 cards. Video excluded.

I don't know if anyone noticed, but the screen has a blueish tint, which means OLED
We can only dream, I think 2012 is year early. The iPhone however MUST have AMOLED in 2013, at least then we can get the wow factor back after the retina display.

Hello,
I do some download in my app where some of the data are images. In my app I save this data and create uiimages object where needed. Everything works fine so far. My problem is:
I have a custom tableViewCell class and in this class I have a UIImageView defined. No matter which size I set to this Uiimageview, the image put into it gets the height of the tablecell. I have tried to change the viewMode for the cell uiimageview content but without any luck so far. What can I do to actually get the images to be displayed with the size of the uiimageview it is added into...?
The images is created like this:
NSFileManager *fileManager = [[NSFileManager alloc]init];
UIImage *imgToUse = [[UIImage alloc] initWithData:[fileManager contentsAtPath:[dict objectForKey:@"data_path"]]];
[fileManager release];
After this the images is saved into a dictionary and in the table delegate method - (UITableViewCell *)tableView:(UITableView *)t cellForRowAtIndexPath:(NSIndexPath *)indexPath {
the image is added to the imageView, like this:
cell.imageView.image = [[self.imageDict objectForKey:@"some key here"];
Any Ideas? I do not understand why the cell height controls the image height? What am I doing wrong?
Thanks in advance!

Technically 60% of the voting public did not want a conservative government. Only 40% voted conservative, another reason why we need a two party system or proportional representation.
80% didn't want a liberal government, 70% didn't want a NDP government. Conservatives won the majority of seats, now let them run the show for a while.
